A mere 13 pounds, the turbine, which was sponsored by Southwest Windpower, can survive in harsh mountain winds up to 110 mph with three voltage options of 12, 24 and 48 VDC. After a long day of climbing, Klonowski and his team set up the turbine to power their base camp, primarily for radio connection, heat and the occasional alpine dance party.
Situated just south of the Indus River in Pakistan, Nanga Parbat outlines the western crux of the Himalayan Ridge, averaging a daily high of 30°F for this time of year. Incorporating the turbine as a member of their team, the AIR Breeze can be seen in juxtaposition to their vibrant orange and red tent, piercing the marshmallow white snow covered earth by means of a tree branch. Klonowski keeps an updated blog, Nanga Dream packaged with photos, videos and written testimony in Polish for those following their progress; an electrical connection that is made possible by the AIR Breeze.
